The Amendment to legalize assisted suicide that was attached to H157, the tanning bed bill, was ruled non germane in the Senate. This means that it was inappropriate because it did not relate in any way to the original legislation about tanning beds. For a non germane amendment to be considered, it must obtain a 3/4 vote in the Senate. Proponents of assisted suicide failed to gain this 3/4 vote for consideration. Not only did they not get a 3/4 vote, they didn’t even come close to getting a simple majority vote. The vote failed by a margin of 18 No to 11 Yes.
