Our friends at the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition received a positive response to a request that the Canadian Government appeal the euthanasia exemption given to Gloria Taylor. As you likely recall Gloria Taylor was granted a constitutional exemption to Canada’s law against assisted suicide and euthanasia by Justice Lynn Smith in the Carter case. That exemption was again upheld on August 10 by Justice Prowse.
The Honorable Rob Nicholson has announced that the government of Canada will appeal the latest decision by Justice Prowse. The BC Court of Appeal will hear Carter case from March 4 – 8, 2013 and the appeal will likely go to the Supreme Court in the summer of 2013.
