Many people who oppose assisted suicide have been surprised and dismayed to find their names on a petition that will be used in lobbying for its legalization. These people tried to reach out to Brittany Maynard during the publicity filled month before her suicide. Compassion and Choices, the group behind the relentless push for assisted suicide in the US, posted a card that could be signed online. It expressed only sympathy for Maynard’s illness and support for her as a suffering person. Without telling them, the group added the signers’ names to a petition designed to make lawmakers believe that there is wide support for assisted suicide. The video at the link below contains a phone number to call if you signed this card out of sympathy for Brittany Maynard but do not want your name on the petition.
